April 15th
This would be the last time we pulled up camp at lake Afton.
The 1st leg of our journey begins. That day we drove to my brothers farm in northern Kansas. Where we would spend time with family and remove unnecessary items for the trip.
Randy took the 5th wheel to the dealership to have the bearings and brakes looked at. So I arrived 1st and spent some time at my mothers house with her.
She has a beautiful yard, with many different types of trees and flowers. One that was particularly beautiful was this flowering crab apple tree, which was in its prime about 3 days earlier but was still beautiful.
We had a very nice day together, just spending time together visiting.
Later that day Randy got to my brother Kris’s house with the camper. We met up together over supper, and made plans for turkey hunting.
My brother Lynn came up from Abilene, Ks. And spent the day with us. Looking over the route we were planning on taking, as he had been up to Alaska hunting and fishing in the past.
Randy and I spent a little time each day thinning items from the camper that were not necessary. Randy weighed the camper before we started at my brothers grain elevator and determined we needed to remove about 400 lbs.
Kris’s son in law Brian and his dad came from Wichita to go turkey hunting. Brian’s dad Randy got a nice turkey one morning.
Kris’s son Drew and his fiance Emily were home from college for the weekend. Emily shot a 23# turkey. It was almost as big as she is.
Then it was Randy’s turn.
We met with Randy’s brother and sister for supper one night in Belleville.
We were finally ready to go. On april 22nd we weighed our camper and were delighted to find we had taken off 800# of weight.
We said our goodbyes and started out on our 3600 mile journey.
Our 1st stop was Attwood Ks. 1/18th of the way 😊.Where we spent time with my brother Lyle and his wife Lynette.
We left the next a.m.around 12:00. We stopped in Oberlin and left my pistols to my cousin Joe Dejmal who owns a sporting store, so he could mail my handguns to Alaska.
Our destination was Falcon Co. Outside of Colorado Springs , Co. Where we will spend time with our daughter, Erin Blad.
We arrived at our campsite it falcon around 6pm.

Our dog Elsa looking out the window after crossing into Colorado. She looks like she is thinking we are not in Kansas any more😄.
